Boston Local Food Festival
THANK YOU FOR ANOTHER INCREDIBLE BOSTON LOCAL FOOD FESTIVAL!
On Sunday, September 15th, the 2024 Boston Local Food Festival was filled with the flavors, sights, and sounds of New England’s lively local food community. With the sun shining on the Rose Kennedy Greenway and smiles all around, attendees explored an amazing array of dishes presented by New England’s talented chefs, farmers, fisherfolk, food producers, and food trucks. From farm-to-plate cuisine to sweet and savory treats, the festival was a true celebration of our local food system.
Our 85 amazing food vendors really showed up and showed out for the 2024 Boston Local Food Festival. You could’ve traveled to every continent and back with the variety of food we had—but the best part? Most of it was sourced right here in New England!
The activities this year brought the festival to life! Highlights included:
FSNE’s New England Village educated festival-goers about their 50-by-60 Food Vision: that by 2060, 50% of the food produced in New England is from New England.
The Seafood Throwdown, where two chefs raced through the festival to create stunning seafood dishes for the judges.
Chef Demos at the Clarke Kitchen, showcasing our vendors in action with free tastings for attendees.
The Family Fun Zone featured acro-yoga, juggling, face painting, apple cider pressing, and lawn games.
Interactive exhibits from The Trustees Adventure Van, Boston Public Library’s mobile bike library, and Open Air Circus activities.
If you missed the festival or want to join us as a vendor or volunteer next year, sign up for our newsletter or follow us on social media @bostonlocalfood to stay updated on the 2025 Boston Local Food Festival and other exciting events.
We can’t wait to see you next year for more food, fun, and community celebration!

A Taste of the Boston Local Food Festival
Here are some activities you can look forward to at the festival:
-
Cooking Demonstrations
Learn a new trick or two from New England’s top culinary creatives. Watch our vendors chef up while featuring local ingredients from regionally inspired recipes.
In 2024, we learned about ancient chocolate drinks, Burmese noodles, a cactus salad, and sauce-making with local honey.
-
Seafood Throwdown
The Seafood Throwdown features two local chefs, a surprise seafood ingredient, and all their culinary skills and creativity as they go head-to-head in a cooking competition. Their creations never fail to please.
In 2024, chefs combined Black Back Flounder with local vegetables and herbs from the festival to make spectacular dishes.
-
Family Fun Zone
You’ll find the Family Fun Zone near Rings Fountain where face painting, movement, open-ended play, and animal interactions abound. There is something for everyone!
In 2024, OpenAir Circus shared juggling and acro-yoga, Painting as Ritual and Art decorated faces, The Trustees brought their adventure van, the Boston Public Library shared their mobile library, the Mass Health Connector engaged families, and Green Crab had their touch tank for problem-to-plate. We also hosted a cider press and ChopChop magazines.
-
New England Village
The New England Village highlights the diversity of food growers and makers across our region, to share the 50-by-60 Food Vision. Can New England produce 50% of the food consumed here by 2060? Stop by to explore this question and discover potential solutions.
-
Food Experiences
With vendors showcasing flavors from every continent and ingredients grown across New England, along with organizations representing food and agriculture from across the state, this event offers you the chance to taste, explore, and learn about a world of food—all in one place!
-
Zero-Waste Challenge
The Boston Local Food Festival aims to be a zero-waste event. Most outdoor festivals create mountains for trash for landfills. We aim to divert at least 90% of our disposables to compost or recycling. Help us keep Boston beautiful and the planet healthy!
